How every job can have a purpose
People doing everyday jobs can do remarkable things, as happened to this 91 year old war veteran.
The elderly man was sitting alone at Eat'n Park in Belle Vernon USA. 24 year old Dylan went to routinely serve him but did something different.
He got down on his knees started to actually talk to him.
"Eventually the man apologized for talking so much.
"I'm alone now," he said, "and I don't often have someone to talk to."
Dylan smiled and said he enjoyed listening." The old man talked of how he lost his hearing in the war among other stories.
When the food was ready, Dylan told the man he was on break (whether or not he really was) and offered to sit with the man while he ate, because no-one should eat alone.
They kept talking after the meal as Dylan walked with the man out the door.
Anyone and everyone can have an impact on others, in any job.
All jobs matter.
You never know how far reaching your actions can be.
We'll never know what an impact Dylan had on the man.
We'll never know what impact the man had on Dylan. But I do know his impact was felt all the way to me.
